Spring Concerts coming!

Women of the TayThe Men of the Tay and the Women of the Tay will each be featured in the annual Spring Concert coming in the second week of June.

For the Men, the Monday, June 8th concert will mark their sixth annual concert. The one hour of music will include all pieces not heard at any performance in previous years. There are both some rollicking tunes such as “A-Roving” or “What shall we do with the Drunken Sailor.” These will be in complete contrast to settings of Robert Frost’s “The Pasture” and “With One Dream.” Along the way the audience will be entertained with traditional favourites such as “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” and “The Sidewalks of New York.”

For the Women, the Wednesday, June 10th concert marks their end of their first season as a chorus.  They will be presenting a wide ranging program of songs with both spiritual and spirited styles including “An Irish Blessing”,”African Alleluia”, “Gershwin for Girls” and a selection of hits from Broadway called “Leading Ladies.” There is a chance that you just might hear the traditional 50’s sound as the girl’s rock out tunes and also perform highlights from “Sister Act.”

Both concerts begin at 7:00 PM and are being held at St. James the Apostle Anglican Church in Perth. There is no charge to attend the concerts however a freewill donation may be made to assist with the costs of the choir and church’s ministry programs.

Happy New Year …

No doubt many of the members of both groups took the opportunity to sing in the New Year with a chorus of “Auld Lang Syne” and, judging from the phone calls, many are also looking forward to getting back together.

The Men of the Tay resume practices on Monday, January 19th at 7:00 PM in the Music Room at Perth and District Collegiate Institute.

The Women of the Tay resume practices on Wednesday, January 21st at 7:00 PM in the Music Room at St. Johns Catholic High School.

Both choruses are looking forward to a full season of music and singing together and will be appearing at many events throughout the winter, spring and summer months. The choruses have been invited to perform as part of the Memorial and Dedication Service of the Old Burying Ground on May 24th, and to come together for a concert on July 8th as part of the Tay 175 Anniversary. The Men of the Tay concert is scheduled for Monday evening, June 8th and the Women of the Tay concert is scheduled for Wednesday evening, June 10th.

New members are welcome. There are only a few spots remaining in the Women of the Tay and opening in each section of the Men of the Tay. Information on joining the chorus can be found on this website.
